In Flight Adjustable I.F.A

NOW IN CARBON FIBER ! ! !.

It was simply a matter of time before it happened - how could we resist putting our blades into an in-flight adjustable hub. It's an exciting development for Bolly Props.

News (May 11 2008): Due to a revision of our business and manufacturing infrastructure for this product, product release will be delayed until 2009. Test props are currently flying.

History

The first prototype IFA hub was made from aluminium and was tested in October 2005 on our 200hp test rig with the aim of determining load data and to find the mechanical boundaries. Our second raft of prototypes were on show at the " Narromine Annual Fly-in 2006 " in 2 Blade mechanical and 3 Blade electric formats to suit Rotax 912 / 912S / 914. (see picture).

Since then we have redesigned the hub to use internal pitch control mechanisms (the original external versions were suspect to wear and was difficult to cowl inside "normal" spinners). The revised design has been developed via CAD for optimal CNC production.

Therefore we now have our IFA hub & blades made from light weight Carbon Fiber and Kevlar.  Our Testing has included prop over speed to 4,500rpm ( mach 1.2 tip speed & exerting over 3 times the normal operating centriphical load ) and operating at 30 degree pitch with 160 hp.

Initially we are offering our IFA with Mechanical Pitch Control mounted to the Rotax gearbox, and soon we will be adding the option for Hydraulic and Electric versions will have 3 versions in 2B or 3B for Rotax 912
It is our intention to continue developing and expanding our range of IFA props for higher hp engines and amphibious applications.
